In Case of Emergency
We hope that our patients never will experience an orthodontic emergency, but given the chance that that might happen, we always are available to help.

Should an emergency occur after office hours, we can be reached 24 hours a day. One of the doctors is always on call and can be reached at (734) 668-8288. The office answering machine recording will announce who is on call along with the telephone number where he/she can be reached.

For less severe situations, such as a broken or loose appliance or a poking wire, please call us during business hours, so that we may schedule a comfort adjustment. These problems have our highest priority; we will treat the cause of the problem as soon as possible.

It is common for patients to complain of tooth tenderness for a day or more after an orthodontic appointment. Usually these symptoms are managed easily by the patient through the temporary use of an over-the counter analgesic such as ibuprofen, Tylenol, or Aleve. If discomfort persists, please contact our office.

Definitions of Various Stages of “Emergency”

Pain or bleeding — Phone us and we will see you the same day. We will do everything possible to give you highest priority and treat the cause of the problem immediately

Loose band, bracket or appliance — Phone us and we will assess the situation and advise accordingly. Many repairs can be taken care of by adding time to the next scheduled appointment if it is not too far in the future.

Lost retainers — Phone us; we will assess the situation and schedule needed impressions and delivery appointments.
